There is a problem when spawning.
Usely, players appears with their weapons in "auto" mode.
But the weapons sometimes appears in single shot mode and if you dont always look at it, you die in the first close gunfight.
And there is ALWAYS one time you will forget to look at this.

Known bug. You get the firemode from people you spec.

Learn to use single fire. On every distance expect very close it is far superior.

in my opinion, you should always use auto. at close range its perfect, and at long ranges you can just quicktap the mouse. dunno what kinda dude would use single.

Long range I disagree only because you can still control your aim with single.... auto long range even short bursts you are losing aim with the kick back unless you are using old school FOV commands from q1 which shouldnt be available in q3.....

However I think you are right short close quarters, auto is the way to go. If you have a nice 4-5 button mouse, bind a key on the side of the mouse to the mode change so its easily accessible...

here is my mouse config:
left mouse: shoot/throw/slash
middle mouse(wheel)ironsights on/off.
right mouse is change firemode. i have a thumb button for reload, but dont use it often.

More or less my whole clan atleast. We might be n00bs though. Auto vs single on distance usually ends with the auto guy both wasting a full mag and his life.

sorry about that "dunno what kinda dude would use that" bit. that was stupid and not thought about..

that is annoying. thats how i normally get fraged early on after spawn. but since i use sniper rifles often, that doesnt make any sense at at all.

uh, maybe all the guns should always start on single, coz in real life, you keep the gun on single or semi, never in auto, unless your using it.

how about a safety switch?

well, who would want to run up to the enemy with safety on? at least with single on we'll still get a shot at em.

lol, a safety on a fake gun, thats like having a cookie getting lost in the milk, in a video game like TC:E safety won't matter, there is never a time whne safety should be used, if you are afraid you are going to shoot an allie, just take you fingure off the button. Lol, sometimes if I just wake up and go play the game, my fingure tends to twitch a little, and I will occasionally press the button, I had to start taking my fingure off the button to stop radomly shooting my weapon, lol, it confused other people, but if you are sniping, I like ot keep my fingure on the button at all times, you neve know when that enemy will pop out. A true sniper squeezes the trigger in to the point where it is about to fire, this gives them that split second timing in that shot, squeezing a trigger only takes about 3/10ths of a second, but if you can get that down to 1/10th, ti's all the better, some weapons however have longer trigger time and take longer to squeeze, so having a good sensitive fingure is always good. There was a Navy Sniper, yes, I said that, he was a Navy SEAL, but would mainly stay on Aircraft carriers, and if they got attacked, he could take out the people on board with ease, they called him God, no idea why, but he would run around with a nail file, filing at his fingure tips, not his nails, it gave him a raw fingure, little skin, which made his fingure much more sensitive, so he could get that advantage over the enemy. Heard that from one of my realtives, was in the Navy for a long time and knew this guy,

Question.. if he stayed on board the Carrier, then what was he sniping? Enemy aircraft?

on single you just have to double tap it for a kill on auto tap it might take 3 or 4 quick bursts because they go all over
