Post subject: | ET source code update |
I stopped following the projects using ET's source code since little progress was being made but that has changed now. Currently, there are two major projects, OpenTerritory and ETXreal: http://www.openterritory.co.uk/ http://www.moddb.com/mods/etxreal As far as I can tell, goal of both of these projects is to enhance the look of ET and recreate the assets so they can be released as stand-alone games. Here are screens captured in a test run of ETXreal: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Shots include rim lighting, bloom, HDR and dynamic lights. The effects seem exaggerated but keep in mind that only default ET's assets are used and they're not optimized for next-gen. I tried running both TC:E and CQB, I get a black to brown gradient blocking the entire screen with TC:E, but when using r_showtris 1, the geometry is there. I couldn't get CQB to run the sample map, sv_pure and sv_official errors. |

I am following the development, too. And I am really looking forward to a next gen ET engine. As soon, or, maybe better, given that ETxreal will be really usable and stable on all platforms/hardware, it would make a very good basis for standalone at one point. |

xreal/ET-xreal is pretty neat stuff, i loved how good performance was with tweaked graphics on Xreal (game project) Also like the new soft shadows. Cool though they came to moddb, now tracking/following becomes so much easier. I didnt even know how far he/they had gone. Uh-oh Quote: it would make a very good basis for standalone at

I think it would be neet if there were two Team Terminator projects rolled and respectively revivied on ETXreal or what ever forks develop with the ET source: The current CQB project headed in what ever direction it's currently going -- and a 'Legacy True Combat' project that perhaps could be picked up by Acrid_, and/or Race and others... These are all talented results oriented Developers that have created a mountain of code and assets that shaped how a lot of people think about FPS Realism shooters -- and there's huge volume of high quality Level Design work that has all but disappeared. It would be hice to see original work restored in a 'stand alone' state with 'vintage' assets as a 'runs on anything even grandma's PC' for both posterity, and O:TC Fans that miss the unique flavor of CTF that Original True Combat made popular. Just wishfull thinking I knowl; I heard Acrid_ choked on an apple, fell down some stairs and died when a mail box fell on his head, and Race joined a nudist hippie commune... ![]() |
