Next steps

I've been playing some CS:GO, lacking a better shooter, and started to miss the TC:E days.

This made me think.. it is time to revive TC!

The current instance is problematic. ET's engine, that is.
Coroner is AFK most of the time (not blaming him, RL issues).

This makes it hard for 3rd party developers to contribute since they don't know if they're creating something to be scraped away.

Main idea is creating a shooter step-by-step and hopefully reviving a community at the same time.

The game would have to be open source so work can always be continued.
Not copying TC but rather creating a community inspired edition giving full credit for all the work and ideas which preceded.

Some (very old) screenshots of a map which got halted with TC's development, inspirational maybe:

Thanks for your attention.

Unfortunately, just like all the other realistic FPS mods I used to play, TC is pretty much dead. It really needs a new engine. Urban Terror is about the only somewhat realistic FPS still around from "the old days". :)

I started playing TC .45 around 2002. It was a good game.

Try Argo on Steam. It's FREE and it's an Arma 3 version of Death Match. It's ok, but still a lot of outdoor type stuff. Crysis Wars was the only "newer" game that ever came close to the feel of True Combat / Urban Terror / Infiltration. I feel the only way to go forward for the moment, is to start making indoor levels for Arma 3. One way is too use something like Noesis ( google for it ) to try and get the structure of old maps from these games into 3Ds Max, so they can be dropped onto Arma 3 Islands. Was working on this a few years ago, but burned out. Maybe I'll try again one day.

With CS:GO being utter crap I looked around more and revisited Insurgency. It's quite enjoyable.

But that's for another topic. I am mainly interested if there are people interested in reviving the community by working together on a project.

If the answer is yes (hopefully) we can continue with the development discussion. Starting with the engine.

To kick it off, I'd focus on a open-source engine so the game development isn't crippled when the engine development stops.

Hi, my work is not exclusive to tce or cqb but of course can not be compatible and must be completely revised if the game engine is changed. For example, if you use md5mesh & md5admin, you need to make several changes.
The alternative would be to ensure code backward compatibility to mdm / mdx / md3 formats ...

Thanks for the offer!

Working with a more popular/compatible/documented model format should be a priority.

It's hard to find tools to create and edit mdm/mdx formats alone.

Do we have some more 3rd party devs lurking?

My weaponsounds mod is currently on hold but I am interested in finishing it someday.
If dev work gets serious, I might record some weapon sounds myself. Till then, I will rely on material ripped from Youtube.

In the end everything comes to time..
Video games became graphically so intense that you need huge professional team to develop them.
The only realistic option would be to go back to the roots and make minimalistiic mod to a well renowned shooter, translating only gameplay. If this is still possible at all.

also.. i would rather recommend engine like unreal simply because of support and working environment. Also the project would need at least 3 graphic designers and 2 decent programmers to really commit anything...

Oh, this here is one of my biggest dream! What would i give to bring back the old TCE Times.

I am a programmer, i would help you to make the programming stuff.
You can contact me:

What do you think about the unity engin? It´s great to work with it, not simple but i know some very good unity experts. The possibilitys are extreme.

Let me know if you want to start!!!

PS.: You said coroner have a lot to do ---> RL
Whats with coroner? Why he let the game die that way? He got greenlieght on steam?
Why is he not work on the greenlight version? I can not understand that.

And apart from this, i would pay for this game on steam. Its his money....
