i play on official servers only, more reliable, its feels more neat and clean,
since the new offical/custom server system,
ive never ever have played in a custom map, i did a few times, but that was by accident, i directly disconnected and removed all the garbage pk3 files,

on servers:

all weopons,
F3 ready up button to start the match,
automatic balance,
BC for training
OBJ for the real deal,
high ping,
english speaking people on the server,
not to over crowded server, i prefer 10 vs 10, much more immersive.

thats about it,

Most mappers do not take into consideration that TCE isnt suppose to be largescale to start with. The second point I would like to point out is that the Quake3 engine has mapping guidelines with set limits to the polygon count of the visibly rendered scene for it to work. As I mentioned in the other post, lights are also counted with this poly limit with lights almost doubling the poly count. I think the limit is soemwhere around 6000 per currently player visible part of the map - also take into consideration the weapon and character model mesh which are also rendered and counted.

The poly limit can be increased but only with a full engine modification, however this does not mean you cant use more than the limit. You can but the engine was never designed to do real time rendering of very detailed and complex maps.

TCE maps arent that complex to begin with, they simply compensate with high quality textures with proper bump mapping and prelit textures reducing the need for extra lights.

Believe me, I know about how long it takes to render complex 3d environments as I do that myself.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would usualy pick the server that has the lowest ping with the most players.

i actually think that would be awesome, playing ET mod thats feels and looks completely different is awesome, i know it is allready different enough, but it still has that ET'ish feel to be honest, hmmm... maybe is because of the models and the model's hip weopon position...,

but my point is, im really into old stuff being revamped, seeing the devs improving the WET-engine, is like seeing a old mustang classic being transformed into something new... infact i really like to live in very old houses, because if its revamped and upgraded and stuff, it makes you look like you a skilled carpenter, if you visit europe all you see is old buildings, very old.... but very improved and revamped, thus very exclusive looking buildings,

but my point is, i really dont mind the devs using the old game engine, because people will c how improved TCe is, compared to ET, it shows evryone how skilled the developers of the mod are,

evryone can make amazing things on a new game engine, but not evryone is able to make amazing things on a old game engine, making something awesome on a very old game engine will only highlight the developer's skills imo.

hen we go full circle to me explaining the whole legal issue with modding Quake3E that is used in WET. Modding the GPL version of the Quake3E is legal to a degree, modding the Quake3E used in a another game is not.

well i think the software code is allread tweaked and improved by the devs,
i dont see them having any problems

as long the devs dont make:

i dont see any problems, i dont think ID wouldnt really bother about some modders bending the rules a little bit, infact if they were concerned about these issue's, than i think they prob allready sued all the cheaters that make all those illegal cheating tools...

aimbots/wallhacks are 100% legal, as they are seperate programs, or are considered mods.

and the part you quoted means nothing. it says you can mess with anything but the engine code. which is exactly what you're trying to do. it is not, and was never legal. and YES ID WOULD care if the engine was modified. we're not talking about a little maybe 100 person community, we're talking about probably the most popular ET total conversion. plus, you need special tools to modify the engine, along with getting through security checks that they put in to stop people from modifying the engine. if we could get ID/splash damage's approval to modify the engine it would obviously let us, but the chances of that happening are the same as us reaching the new eath-like planet within the next 50 years. even if we could reach the speed of light in 20 years, we still wouldn't make it.
