Guess who just got Vista today? ME. Guess how much I paid for it? $0 And finally, can you guess why I'm NOT breaking the forum rules by telling you guys this? Because my school is giving away free copys of Vista Enterprise Edition (a beefed up Buisness Edition, essentially) to students! YAYZ! Only thing is I'm kinda hesitant to install it right away because of compatibility issues. I might lose the ability to play a handful of awesome indy-games (like Soldat or maybe even TC:E |

I think TC:E should be fine, that is, if ET works, which I imagine it should. BTW, I'm very jealous of you right now. |

Hmm. I'm still a bit wary about all of the DRM restrictions and such. I'm interested in seeing how all of it pans out. |

Scratch that, turns out it's actually Buisness Edition after all (the Enterprise thing was just a rumor, turns out). |

but at least you got the $300 service pack free! I'd like to look at vista, but I probably won't get it for another year, if I get it at all, maybe the next windows version will be out by the time I get my college laptop. |

Lucky you. Then again if you did use those kinds of software - you know the ones which we do not speak of - Vista has a feature that automatically deletes them without warning. Just poof - gone. Then again, I only plan to use Vista for games and multimedia -maybe build myself another computer as I want to keep my current rig for workstation purposes only as that is what is is good for. |

when it comes to games, I'm split. I"m thinking of dual-booting with either linux+vista, or if it's before 2012, xp+vista. XP for indie and possibly-considered-illegal-but-they-aren't games (DooM shareware, mostly.) another thing I want is a laptop with a FREAKING HUGE Hard drive. if I can't get double, then I'll partition it. |

I would probably get a vista with dual boot linux distro (which ever I find later on that is good for me) That way I use vista for multimedia and linux for work - via GPL software such as Gimp and Blender. Then keep an XP system around with more common software - obvoiusly those that wont be supporting Vista anytime soon. |
