try it out, if you have installed antivir try visiting www.serials.ws with explorer, you might see allot of allerts, the anti virus catches the virus before it penetrates your computer, dont forget to choose delete,

AntiVir is the best free antivirus out there, it beats all the other antivirus, i know cause ive tried allot of anti viruses, and AntiVir works the best,

what you actually need most of all is a decent firewall, the antivirus step can be safely skipped once you have, say, Comodo Firewall, although I wouldn't recommend it since no one can resist downloading that crack off rapidshare.

An antivirus is designed to stop virus from harming your computer by monitoring the behaviour of the programs. Which means, as long as it hasn't started doing anything (only downloaded itself, for example), your antivirus won't detect it.

An firewall, by contrast, works by monitoring all incoming and outgoing traffic, and stops the programs from actually downloading or doing anything themselves without your knowledge, which means, technically, it's impossible to get viruses unless you allow them yourself.

Yes i agree antivir+comodo is all u need and both are free

meh maybe new firewall but my security suite is enough. One thing i aprechiate in these security things is the fact that is it light or heavy and still capable stoping viruses. My norman security suite is a commercial, light and quality stuff as far as i know, the detection capability is medium

Still i have second thoughs for scanners like mallware bytes (software) i have heard it does it job for finding hidden mallware

We even tested this with my friends pc, he haves a bad habbit using torrent, and everyone knows the fact if you use it more you have higher risk getting infected. So windows defender fine none, my friend tried avast which i asumed fine even something if there realy is something still none. He tried mallware bytes and it found 3 dates were that 2 was old and one fresh

Install as FIRST program a decent firewall on your computer, if possible from a usb key you put the installer on it coming from the download from a safe computer.
ZoneAlarm, PC-Tools, Comodo (even if they were producing spywares before...) are good choices.
ALWAYS DEACTIVATE AUTORUN!!! (especially for usb devices)
Activate the display of extensions of your files, some can be fake .zip or .jpg and in fact to be a .exe...

To avoid to catch viruses, don't go on crack/pr0n sites...
Run your Windows as simple user instead of administrator (UAC activated) or if your aren't scared to change your habits use a Linux distro.
Use Firefox with AdBlock and NoScript, as you can catch some shits via adverts/iframes.
NEVER INSTALL ANY TOOLBAR IN YOUR BROWSER (Ask, Winamp, toolbars for emails).
If possible, run it in a Sandbox (Sandboxie) which is a kind of condom for your computer.
For the hi-risk level stuff (if you can help yourself to use a keygen/crack/warez program), install a second system in a Virtualbox, do a snapshot before to inject your keygen, and rollback it after.
If you download a program + a keygen/patch, download the original installer from the editor's website (or from a site like Softpedia).
Then install the clean program on your machine, and do some tests at least in your Virtualbox (which should have an antivirus/firewall too)

Never open joined documents from an email or from MSN.
If you really want to open it, do it in a Sandbox or a Virtualbox.
Always ask for confirmation from your contact if he actually sent you the file.
And even, don't trust it is safe... It can still be infected (macro-virus in office docs...)

Avoid sites like Facebook which contain a huge quantity of malwares (I know for some of you it will be hard)

By the way, whatever antivirus you could choose it could be defeated since it exists the KHOBE attack which concern every version of Windows.
NO ANTIVIRUS IS TOTALLY SECURE ANYMORE.
Imagine this scenario:
Your computer is a disco and your antivirus is the gorilla outside checking if you are allowed to enter...
If a guy with tennis shoes (a malware of the bad suburbs ) is trying to enter, he is rejected...
But now imagine a friend of him dressed with a tuxedo, good looking, the gorilla will open the door...
And at this moment, as the door is open, the bad guy runs like a rabbit to jump inside!
This is the system of the KHOBE attack, two processes cooperating, one looks clean to fool the antivirus, the second one uses the open doors.

Always remember, most of the time, the responsible of a viral infection is the user!
Like we say in France, the most dangerous threat is the interface chair-machine.

Detection of viruses isn't a criterai of good quality of an antivirus, you have often false positive.
Antivir is very good anyway.
You have some antivirus which detected parts of the system (McAfee) or some game (WoW) as malwares.
Of course, destroying a part of the system can have some side-effect...

Btw dragonathan its stupid try which one detects most because these viruses who use "friends" to get in as azmatick said may use next time other "friends" and remain undetected. And ofcourse when they are detected you dont anymore find them with other anti virus because they are at caranteen or removed

As far as I know KHOBE attack (Kernel Hook Bypassing Engine) consists in a modification "on-the-fly" of a call to the karnel already granted by the antivirus to a first "legit" process by a second one, which is the active part of the malware.
But if you arlready have a rootkit on your machine, your antivirus could already be fooled without to know it
