I would like to see how is that possible if there is a system so only administrators can aprove registrations.

no system is flawless but damn we need some update here... some nice new captchas wouldnt be a bad idea, or captcha + simple question, probably safest method (if needed together with admin activation, overkill tho imo)

Some of the recaptha pictures are pain in the ass for people as well. By my experience simple question works just as well and is easier for people.

ye i know, i find myself cursing a lot when confronted with certain captchas
but imo its worth it as u only have to do it once to register and as long as bots will have a really hard time its fine for me (+ security question imo).
